Metallurgical testing and mineral separation pilot plant

Verum Group operates a magnetic separation pilot plant. The pilot plant is suitable for raw / tails / middling iron sand and mineral sand separation by gravity (dense media or spirals) or magnetic properties. We complete liberation studies on bulk ore samples and generation of marketing samples for industrial minerals. Contact us for details on pilot plant equipment and capabilities.

Washability

Coal preparation is the processing of coal to improve the quality for the end user. Our comprehensive range of testing includes float/sink analysis (AS 4156.1-1994), drop shatter (ASTM D440), drum tumble (AS 4156.1-1994), froth flotation (AS 4156.2-1998) and wheelstand testing (simulating coal sluiced through a pipeline).

Resource Consents approvals

We manage assessment of environmental effects compilation, resource consent processing and deliver expert evidence into resource consent processes where required. This may involve collection of baseline environmental data, numerical modelling of environmental outputs in disturbed environments. We specialise in delivering information and input into successful resource consent applications and for developing projects or renewals for current operations.

Soil and water sampling

Verum Group offers a wide-ranging set of environmental services. We specialise in the assessment of soil and groundwater quality at diverse locations and sources around New Zealand. Our staff have extensive experience with the management of agricultural soils and contaminated sites including those related to timber treatment, landfills, horticulture, sheep dips, petroleum or chemical storage/handling

Our services include:

  • Preliminary Site Investigations (PSI) – A site history report which identifies contamination sources and past and present activities
  • Detailed Site Investigations (DSI) – Sampling and analysis from soil, water air or dust to identify the extent and concentration of contaminants
  • Soil fertility, nutrient balance and nutrient availability reporting
Mineral Resource Evaluation

Our skilled team offer vast experience in resource evaluation. Onsite or centrally based, our consultants have the knowledge and skills to improve mineral resource projects of all levels. Services include due diligence on resource projects; resource classification; mapping; drilling and sampling programme design; chip, mud, and core logging and sampling; detailed coal logging and sampling; database management; accurate data acquisition even in remote and challenging terrain; integration with GIS and modelling services; integration with coal analysis providers and more.

Minerals sector Environmental Science

At Verum Group we recognise that the minerals sector plays a critical role in delivering our societies infrastructure. We believe that this important sector must operate in the most environmentally responsible manner possible and strive for sustainability. We have specialist skills in environmental science for the minerals sector including mine drainage characterisation, prediction, and remediation. We previously operated New Zealand’s only government-funded minerals sector environmental research programme (www.cmer.nz) and incorporate the latest results into our consulting work for industry.

Permit and Project Management

Our consultants have managed many minerals projects where clear communication with key stakeholders is critical to success. Our roles include reporting to, liaising with, and preparing and submitting data to local and central government organisations and departments, and the facilitation and completion of risk assessments. We also have close links with other specialist service providers that will ensure your project is well serviced.

Geological and Environmental Data Collection

Accurate data collection is the backbone upon which all successful projects progress. No matter what level of logistical challenge it takes to get that, our team are just as comfortable navigating through deep forest and digging outcrops in West Coast rain as they are running databases and doing statistical interpretation. We’re not afraid to get our hands dirty to get the result you need.

Spatial Data Services

Our team includes experienced GIS operators of ArcGIS, QGIS and MapInfo. We also offer 3D Geological Modelling, specialising in the minerals industry, on Leapfrog and Vulcan platforms. Consultants are also familiar with Surpac/Gemcom and MineSight. Our geologists have a range of experience across different commodities. Please contact us to discuss your needs and how we can best meet them.

Spontaneous Combustion

Verum Group provide a range of advanced laboratory tests that are leading practice in quantifying the spontaneous combustion propensity of coal and other materials.

Spontaneous combustion is a significant hazard for coal mine operations with the occurrence of events often leading to severe outcomes and major disruptions to production. It is essential for coal mines to produce detailed and reliable Principal Hazard Management Plans based on accurate measurements including the propensity of coal to self-heat under in-mine conditions and the associated gas evolution pattern of the heating.

We offer the following spontaneous combustion tests:

R70 testing - Provides a quick and accurate measure of the intrinsic reactivity of coal to oxygen and the values obtained are strongly coal rank dependent and are affected by the intrinsic properties of the coal. Also obtained is avalue for the Relative Ignition Temperature which is used to confirm the intrinsic spontaneous combustion reactivity of the coal.

Incubation testing - Is designed to simulate coal self-heating for any set of boundary conditions that may exist at a mine, port or in transit. It takes into consideration moisture present and the surrounding environment, the presence of reactive pyrite and issues associated with seasonal variation.

SponComGAS™ testing - The gas evolution pattern that occurs in response to coal self-heating can be used as a signature for the early detection of a self-heating event. We can determine the unique gas evolution trends for your situation which can support alarm limits set in the Trigger Action Response Plans.

SponComBULK™ testing - Monitors hot spot development in a coal pile in terms of location of the initial hot spot and subsequent migration within the pile.

All test results are analysed, interpreted and reported by Chartered Professionals who are members of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and all reports are certified by Registered Professional Engineers who are registered under the terms of the Professional Engineers Act 2002 (Queensland) and have appropriate knowledge and experience.
