Verum Group chemist Hannah Christenson is developing a real-time field analysis method using infrared technology. This portable device measures reflected infrared radiation and will enable on-site, real-time determination of diverse parameters including metabolizable energy in fodder or soil chemistry or ash in coal. This research project compares state-of-the-art infrared technology to standard analysis methods. If relationships are found between the two methods using a suite of innovative correlation tools, then the infrared technology will provide affordable on-site real-time analyses and much more detailed datasets than are cost-effective using conventional methods.
