Workplace Exposure & Noise Monitoring NZ

Respirable Dust

Respirable dust is the portion of dust that penetrates far into the lungs where the gas exchange occurs. This dust sits in the alveoli (air sacs) and gets stuck in the lungs getting potentially permanently lodged in the respiratory tract of the individual.

Personal monitoring will compare the respirable dust to the respirable dust limit on the workplace expose standard. Based on the results, our experienced staff will advise you on the best equipment and actions to take to improve the health and safety of your employees. So get in touch with our friendly staff to book your monitoring.

Inhalable Dust

Inhalable dust is the fraction of dust that is breathed in through the nose and mouth. It is formed through multiple different processes and could be from processes such as baking and farming to welding and grinding.

Personal monitoring for inhalable dust will be compared the Workplace Exposure Standards to assess the levels of the Hazard. Based on the results, our experienced staff will recommend the most appropriate solutions to keep your staff safe.

Crystalline Silica Dust

Crystalline Silica dust is produced by certain substances that are high in silica. Once cut, crushed, ground and broken, they produce dust that is so fine that it can be invisible to the naked eye.

So waste no time getting in touch with our experienced staff to discuss testing and solutions to keep your staff safe.

Metal Dust

Metal dust is the dust that comes off different products usually associated with cutting, grinding or hot processes (welding). Metals are present in small amounts in the body but during certain activities, the exposure to metals could be heightened which can have drastic effects on the body. Different metals can be stored and affect bodies in different ways.

Verum Group compares these individual metals to the workplace exposure standard to assess how much the body is getting exposed to. Depending on the results, our experienced staff will advise you on the best equipment and solutions to implement. So waste no time and book your metal dust monitoring with us.

Welding Fumes

If your business involves welding work, your employees are likely to be exposed to hazardous welding fumes and trace metals. Health issues such as pneumonia, cancer damage to airways and more could affect your employees.

Personal exposure testing allows you to determine the appropriate personal protective equipment you need your employees to wear to offer them the best protection against those fumes. By attaching our monitors on the chest of your employees or in a static position in your workplace, we can compare the results to workplace exposure standards.

Based on the results, we can recommend the types of ventilation and extraction relevant to your situation but also continuous monitoring solutions.

So get in touch with our experienced staff to better assess your needs and how we can best meet them.

Mechanically Generated Fumes (Gas)

Mechanically generated fume is formed by solid material vaporising due to the application of heat. The particulates given off from these processes are extremely fine. The most seen process that forms this kind of hazardous particulate is welding and it can lead to many serious health problems including metal fume fever.

Our experienced staff will help you through the process step by step to ensure that the worker is protected against the hazard. Exposure will be compared to the workplace exposure standard.

VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds)

Volatile Organic Compounds can be found in places using products like paint, aerosol sprays, ink, wood preservatives, cleaners. Present as vapours and gases in the atmosphere, they can be inhaled and potentially cause a range of health effects from airways irritation to severe damage to organs and the nervous system.

Our experienced staff can assess your workplace to identify the types of VOCs present and tell you their level of concentration in comparison to a background reference. We can also analyse individual VOCs. Based on the assessment results, we'll advise you on the best remediation solutions.

Pesticides are a serious threat to the health of workers especially ones dealing with industrial-grade pesticides such as greenhouse workers. Pesticides are made up of harsh chemicals that are by design made to kill certain animals and/or plants. This means that they are severe and are made to get past the natural defences of the organism. For this reason, pesticides pose an increased threat to humans when inhaled.

Our experienced staff will work through with you to find out what chemicals are the greatest risk to the employee. These will be tested during the work shift and compared to the workplace exposure standards. Based on the results, we will advise you on the best remediation solutions to adopt.

Total Particulate (TSP)

Total Suspended Particulate (TSP) can be produced through burning (but not limited to) fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and diesel, as well as drying processes. TSP accounts for all particulate that is generated and emitted into the air. It is made up of various particulate sizes which not only is a nuisance factor when it settles but can have significant impacts on health and the environment.

If you need stack testing for TSP, please contact Verum Group.

PM10 & PM2.5

PM10 (particulate matter smaller than 10 microns) and PM2.5 (particulate matter smaller than 2.5 microns) makes up a portion of TSP and is small enough to penetrate the lungs and cause significant health problems, including respiratory issues, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and other health complications.

PM10 and PM2.5 can be generated in several ways, including burning of coal, wood, biofuels and drying processes.

If you need stack testing for PM10 and PM2.5, please contact Verum Group.

Condensable Particulate

When conducting emission testing, filterable particulate (TSP, PM10 and PM2.5) is captured on filters and analysed. However, a significant proportion of particulate can be in the form of Condensable Particulate Matter (CPM), which passes through sampling filters in vapour form.

Condensable particulate penetrates further into the lungs and bloodstream, causing serious health issues.

If you need stack testing for Condensable Particulate Matter, please contact Verum Group.

Sulphur Dioxide (SO2)

Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) is a colourless, soluble gas. When combined with water it forms sulphuric acid. It is produced from burning sulphur containing fossil fuels such as coal.

SO2 causes irritation to the throat, nose, and respiratory tract. People suffering from asthma and other respiratory problems are even more at risk.

If you need stack testing for SO2, please contact Verum Group.
